To be fair, I'd blame the writers of Alien 3 more so, Fincher was just a director for hire who hadn't even done a major film yet.

Alien 3 > Terminator: Dark Fate
As critical as Cameron has been of the Alien 3 opening, he did the same shit but arguably worse at the start of Dark Fate.

Mike, you're liking the post of someone who earlier said Morbius > Godfather so yeah....  But fine, I'll try this with you one more time. It's OK if we don't agree on Alien3 but I hope you can at least acknowledge the people that dislike it have a point. Killing off Hicks and Newt sucks, but it's almost beside the point. Alien3 could be a great movie and I'd still hate it. What angers me and others is the complete lack of consideration Fincher had. It's an insult to Cameron and the fans of Aliens. Fincher had a complete blank slate. He could have done literally any story he wanted. There is ZERO reason to have picked up immediately after Aliens and render it pointless. If you still don't agree then imagine this. Cameron comes back for Alien 4 and in the first scenes we see Ripley in hypersleep having a nightmare and it turns out that Fiorina was just a dream. You'd be pissed off. Eh, alright. And as for the Cameron Alien 4 passing 3 off as a bad dream, I wouldn't really be pissed off since it still doesn't really harm 3. 3 had an solid ending to the story, even if someone else tried to muck around with the story of Ripley after the events of it it's still a great cap to a trilogy even with all the sequels after it. I'd think it would suck yes, but I think the Sequel Trilogy sucked as well yet I still enjoy Lucas' saga (Episodes I-VI) whenever I rewatch it and I consider the Victory Celebration to be the end of both Anakin's and Luke's story. |

None of it matters. Just as there are millions that liked the characters, there are most likely just as many people who didn't like the characters and found the decision to kill those characters a blessing. Two sides to every coin and all that.
So at the end of the day, you can only really be true to yourself when it comes to movie opinions, and if others happen to agree with you that's groovy.

All I'm saying is, while a lot of people might not like the direction taken with those characters, others might also have liked that direction. Because not everyone will hate that aspect of the movie. And that's without labelling you or trying to end the conversation early.  |
