Can't say I'm surprised. So many great characters that just aren't in the show anymore for one reason or another. So changing the traits of a character was bound to occur eventually.

It is inevitable; the show as it continues through the years will undergo changes until it becomes nothing like it was before. Unless the show ends before it gets that far of course.
