I really like Folk Horror. It is hard to describe what Folk Horror is, a good primer for Folk Horror would be the Unholy Trinity. The Wicker Man, Blood On Satan's Claw and Witchfinder General.

I think Midsommar fits the bill too.

Folk Horror is when a movie/tv show partly or fully uses folklore tales to create fear for the audience. In which case I really like Sleepy Hollow.

Folk horror casts such a wide shadow that films like Hatchet and Sleepy Hollow are part of it. When you think about if all the Bigfoot movies fall into it as well. This is absolutely Folk Horror.

Possibly, but it doesn't appear on the google search. I google searched "folklore horror movies" and Hereditary doesn't appear in the results. But if it uses real folklore then I'd imagine it would be.

My criteria for what makes a folk is that it has to take place in the country side and has to have a strong connection to the region's folklore, history, religious beliefs and traditions. The reason why most people don't think of Hereditary as Folk Horror as it can be set anywhere and not change the story. This video dose a great job setting out what makes Folk Horror what it is.
