So normally I don't discuss matters that are this personal here, but it is a common struggle for people my age or a bit younger. Hell, I think I've lied about my age a time or two before, but I am 21. I've been driving with either grandparents, parents, or brothers for a bit over two years but not by myself, like if I go see a movie by myself someone has to drop me off. I've gotten into just one minor accident over two years. With my second driving permit on the verge of expiring, it was finally time to take the test and get my license.
Attempt #1: I drove too close to the middle of an unmarked neighborhood street for the instructor's liking. "Lane violation" fail.
Attempt #2: I had to back up alongside a curb and then pull away, when I did so, I didn't turn my head but it was clear from the camera on the screen that nobody was coming. "Dangerous maneuver" fail.
Attempt #3: Right at the start of the test I stopped for a second at a green light to look both ways before going, I turned when the light had turned yellow, not red, and the instructor ended the test early as a result. "Disobeys traffic sign or signal" fail.
I now have to get a third permit and restart the cycle from scratch. I fucking lost it and bawled. We came to the conclusion that maybe the people there are just too picky, and I guess I'll take the test a 4th time at another place. Nonetheless, after being chewed and spat out by the DMV 3 fucking times I feel hopeless, like me being on the spectrum is in some way preventing me from being mentally prepared. I dunno, if anyone has some insight or experience with this process to share, it would be appreciated.
