I said it before and I'll say it again, Disney needs to stop focusing on their niche. Even fucking Max is ahead of Disney+. Kids today are too busy with their devices to care.

Although not completely devoid of positives, this is a head-scratching misfire from Ridley Scott.
The film's narrative is a total mess. It's super disjointed, there's almost no flow to it, and many aspects feel rushed and undercooked. Napoleon meets Josephine, then just 2 scenes later they're getting married, then just 2 scenes later she's cheating on him while he's out at war. Maybe the director's cut will patch these issues to some degree. Furthermore, although Phoenix certainly doesn't do a bad job, I think he was miscast as the title role. I just didn't buy him as a strong military commander, he spends most of the movie whining and being upset, and the scenes between him and Josephine are awkward and stilted. If Scott's intention was to make Napoleon seem like a wuss, he succeeded.
At least the battle sequences are quite thrilling, and the movie is nicely shot. I don't have much else, maybe the director's cut will manage to salvage this mess, but I'm not sure how willing I am to find out *sigh*

It was good and very well shot, but felt like turning pages really fast of a history book.

The more I think about it, I almost can't believe that this version of the movie was deemed fit for release, I mean, I assume they'd want this thing to compete for awards? I don't see it having much of an awards footprint in its current state though. It's a clusterfuck of scenes mashed together with no real narrative thread. The only aspect that really worked for me was the battle scenes, but those are maybe 20-30 minutes total. Even Phoenix's performance doesn't work that well for me, he was kind of bland.
