Why am I not excited for this? I can't put my finger on it. I don't want to bitch since I did plenty of that back in 2016. I guess it might because the scale too big. Feels like they are pulling a Force Awakens. Also I prefer my ghost stories to be more self-contained. Unless this movie explains why this shit only happens in New York, considering this world has far more creeiper and haunted places. I could still end up loving this movie, I just don't feel the hype is all.

Still looking forward to seeing it this weekend, but damn some of the reviews are brutal.

Was never hyped for this movie, despite being a huge Ghostbusters fan growing up. This franchise is running into similar issues that Disney's Star Wars is facing. Which is, recycling the same formula from decades ago. Both Ghostbusters and Star Wars were visually limited at that time and studios refuse to evolve just for the sake of nostalgia. Especially considering New York City was much different in the 80s than it is today. Which is why I think Afterlife worked a bit better because it was kept more isolated, which I prefer in my ghost movies and stories.

As someone who thought Afterlife was really good, I think this is a huge regression sadly. Although there's enjoyment to be had, there are BIG problems here.
First off, the story is a complete mess. It's as overstuffed as can be, with so many characters vying for screentime. The movie has no focus, it's basically 2 or 3 movies' worth of ideas cobbled together in just under 2 hours. There are some ideas that could be interesting if they were given more room to breathe, but that's not the case here. With the fairly quick turnaround time, I think it's abundantly clear that the script needed more time in the oven to make something cohesive out of it. At least half of these characters could've been removed and almost nothing would change, especially Finn Wolfhard's character, who only has a tiny subplot involving trying to lure Slimer into a trap. Bill Murray seemingly showed up for a little bit just because they threw enough money at him. Then there's Kumail Nanjiani's character, I'm honestly not a huge fan of his shtick, and this hasn't done a lot to change my mind on that front. Much of the humor in general also fell flat for me, plus can we stop cutting tension with jokes already?? Afterlife was very clearly a passion project, this on the other hand felt like an obligation.
As many issues as I have with this, there still are some aspects that I liked. Between this and Quantumania, Paul Rudd sadly doesn't have much to work with, but much of the humor that did work for me involved his character. Dan Aykroyd gets a substantial role here, and he's no doubt having a blast, which is nice to see. McKenna Grace is the only returning character from Afterlife that gets some substantial development, and although predictable, her plotline is probably the most interesting part of the movie. Plus in general, there's a certain novelty to having another adventure in this world, it's impossible not to have at least a little fun.
All in all, this isn't a terrible movie, but it's a pretty big disappointment unfortunately. I hope the filmmakers take however long is needed to get the next one right. 5/10

Haven't seen it yet, but this movie sounds very Disney-ish. Like a cross between The Force Awakens and The Avengers. When in reality, it was the dynamic of the original cast that made ithe first one work. Sure, they can build mythology, but they dun goof'd with this.

I'm still hoping to see it sometime this week, but from what I've heard, my expectations are low.

It's Sony so I'm guessing it'll be on Netflix in 4-5 months. I should also mention, I don't think the pacing here is very good. While I wasn't necessarily bored, the first 60-70% felt like it was meandering, then the rest felt pretty rushed.

I heard this movie feels strangely "smaller scale" compared to the previous films. Which is something I was already concered about because New York City is too expensive to shoot nowadays, so studios take advantage of indoors sets and green screen. If that's the case, it is making even less sense to continue with the New York City setting. Especially for a movie about ghosts. I much prefer my supernatrual stories in more gothic locations. Would cost a lot less too.

Poll added. 3/5. It just sort of started and threw you into the story, not much gap bridging between the previous one and this one. Wasn't a fan of the shoehorned ghost girl that is responsible for bringing the main villain into the movie either. The first movie did this much better with the ghost dogs, the gatekeeper/keymaster. The final boss fight was very anticlimactic and small scale too. I felt like Bill Murray's character added very little to the story also, kinda pointless that character showing up just for a few one liners. Didn't like the pole sliding bit during the smaller scale boss fight either. And the ending where everyone is outside the firehouse cheering is very undeserved and felt very out of place IMHO, felt too much like they were trying to replicate the ending of the older movies but the scale of the boss fight does not warrant it IMO. Definitely felt there was too much focus on Phoebe as well. She basically feels like she's being treated as the main character and that just doesn't seem right to me. The effects were great and the soundtrack was decent. Better than Afterlife, at least they went with a different villain in this one.

The more time passes, the more frustrated I get that the movie turned out kind of poor. I get the impression that they rushed an unfinished script into production to get it done before the strikes happened last year.

78? He's looking good for his age. Hell, he's in better shape than most people my age.

He is one year older than my dad too. My dad tries to stay fit, but very difficult to reverse to a more youthful apperince at his age. Kinda have to start at a young age by eating right and exercise, and maintain it.
