Mmmm, wonder how many of these things are going to be made?

What I really don't understand is that whenever the rights to a well known character becomes available, most often the first thing that gets made is a shitty horror movie. Why horror? There are a multitude of genres but horror seems to be the main go-to.

People are trolling, that's why. Disney was always made fun of for their clean imagine. Now, people have a chance to make Mickey into the opposite of a children's character and there is nothing Disney can do about it.

Can't Disney buy back its own character rights? Then again.. I'm not sure what they would do with it anyway. Even when they had the rights they weren't exactly making really good Mickey related movies/shows. The Epic Mickey games were probably the last good things to happen from Disney owning the rights.

Who are they are going to buy it from? It is public domain. Besides, it's only old Mickey they lost the rights to. Disney still owns modern Mickey.

Ah nevermind, stuff that enters public domain can't be copyrighted anymore. So Disney can't own it again.

Ironically, Disney is where they are now because of public domain characters. All those old stories and fairy tale princesses and whatnot.

I suppose, in a meta way they could just create a new Disney movie around the character. It's still public domain so they could still use it if they wanted to. It'd be nice if they brought the old Mickey animations back as a kids TV Show, a bit like the old Tom & Jerry cartoons or the more recent Cuphead Show.

Doubt it. The Steamboat Wille brand is ruined now by making him a horror character. Disney takes branding very seriously.

How long until someone creates a Five Nights At Freddy's rip-off. You'll have the animatronics of Mickey and the other characters, all taking place on a steamboat.

This was released a couple of months ago. Disney was preparing themselves for this to happen.
