The last news for this is that it had no release date, and the next news is that it's debuted with 90% on RT. I'm pretty sure there's a memo I've missed.

What does that say when 20th Century Studios films are doing better critically than Disney proper, Marvel, and Lucasfilm?

I'd say if a movie does well critically with paid critics.. it's probably shit or mediocre. But if it does well with the audience then it's probably decent.
But then.. there are many films I enjoy that have had poor critical acclaim, not limited to specific studios of course.
So the natural course of action probably ought to be, if an IP is not faring well with the overall audience, it might be a time to pull a Sonic The Hedgehog, and take what the majority of fans want into account.

No chance it makes more money total, although it surely cost a lot less so it won't lose nearly as much.
