I'm for this honestly.
There's a lot in the original films that could be fixed like with Order Of The Phoenix.
Hell, there's a lot in the source material that can be improved too!

They'll probably go with an original story route, but have elements of all the books in it.

I'm actually reading through all of the books for the first time. I've just finished Half Blood Prince, and I'm about to start Deathly Hallows and then move on to Cursed Child.
I wouldn't mind a more faithful adaptation honestly, especially having Peeves as a character. However based on Dumbledore from the books, Richard Harris absolutely nailed his personality and his little looks and eye twinkle over his glasses. He was the perfect casting for the role, and would be difficult to replace. Gambon was a very poor choice for Dumbledore IMHO.
Put it this way, I tried reading some of Dumbledore's character in the books as Richard Harris' version, and it fit perfectly, then I tried to read it as Gambon's version, and it did not fit at all IMO.
The casting will be interesting to see. As for Voldemort, I wouldn't mind Christopher Eccleston in the role. Fan casting on my part though.

I only had like 2 Harry Potter books as a kid.

Back in the 2000s I had a first edition hardback copy of Goblet of Fire, but I just never read it or got around to reading it. Ultimately I ended up selling it and I moved on. At the time I was kind of ignorant towards books, always thought "well it's easier to just watch the movie". Well, I know better now. There's a reason why books inspire movies.

That's exactly what I had. Goblet of Fire hardcover edition. That book was big. Never finished reading it either.

It's actually not a bad book at all. In fact I've found all of them enjoyable so far. Although I would say that the movie makes the dragon battle better than the book (having it break free flying around Hogwarts) since in the book the dragon remains by the eggs to protect them at all times (which does make more sense but also makes it less fantastical).
Although I had waited until I had obtained every book before starting from the first one, going in order. Each book has some sort of callback to what is told in a previous book, so if you were to read them, I'd recommend starting from Philosopher's Stone in order.

Funny how the US they change the Philosopher's Stone title, lol! Forgot way.

I guess the word Philosopher's was difficult to pronounce or understand for Americans so they went with Sorcerer's. I just thought of a casting for Dumbledore that might actually be decent: Jeff Bridges. I think he could actually pull off the role, he has the perfect tone of voice for it.

lol, no it's not. Philosopher is easy to say. Everyone knows what philosophy is.

Okay found out the real reason. The US publishers thought that Americans were stupid.

I jest, it's actually because people thought kids would be turned off by the word. It was changed by the American publisher, Scholastic, because it thought American children wouldn't want to read a book with "philosopher" in the title.

As if children know what philosophy is.

It doesn't matter, or shouldn't, since the main character is a child, it's a journey for a child to follow along and learn with. The challenge with this reboot will be finding young talent for the roles that they would grow into coming upon the later stories.

All they've gotta do is make the movie version of Cursed Child and bring back all the cast that they can (albeit some cast are now dead so alterations to the story would have to be made). With that, it could spark people wanting to know more and follow the adventures of the new cast that would be in Cursed Child, meaning possibly more sequels following their story from J.K. Rowling and keeping the franchise moving forward as a soft reboot (not ignoring the past movies but moving into new territory of that universe).
Granted they've tried to explore new territory for that universe with Fantastic Beasts but they don't have much source material to fall back on so as a result the movies were pretty lame and boring. But if they can do it from new books that J.K. Rowling might consider doing after potential success of a Cursed Child movie then WB not only makes money but they've got source material so their movies don't completely suck ass AND they can move forward in a soft reboot direction which is pretty close to what they'd want as well.
But hey, this probably won't happen because WB only know how to make poor choices.

This ain't the same WB anymore, though.

We shall see. Hopefully The Flash is the last poor WB decision, but I digress.

I hear The Flash is good, despite Ezra's shinanigans.
