Saw it last night. Okay, this was bad, lol! It is faithful to the lore, but horribly executed. Freddy and his pals aren't real villains BTW. Fans of the games know who the real villain is, but people who don't play the games are not going to know that. So I don't blame them if things don't make sense to them. Again, faithful to the lore, but VERY amateurly written and directed. Blum, WTF!? I've heard people call it worst film of the year. Clearly, they've not seen what I have suffered through. I thought that this was going to be A victim of it's own hype and I was right. Also, Blumhouse are not the kings of horror. I find they average one good film per year, if that.

I can see fans of the games go soft on this, even though they shouldn't. This could have been rated-R, despite kids playing the game. I'll just leave this here without context...

Okay, you know what, I'm just going to spoil the movie. Because this part of the movie really is a major problem. People who have never played the games are going to be confused as fuck. Matthew Lillard is William Afton (the major villain from the games). Why the fuck he has a different name in the movie makes no sense. It is also IMPLIED that William Afton's son is Michael. That's why he got the job in the first place. But how the fuck are people who don't play the games are suppose to know that!?!?!

First, it people who have never WATCHED people play the games. I don't think anyone aside from five people on YouTube have ever played them.
For real, its extremely arrogant to think that everyone knows the series lore back to front. This is incredibly popular with a small group of people, not everyone who is going to see this will be a die hard superfan.

My point is, they can't assume everyone knows this. This movie alienates the casual movie goer who don't play the games or watch the YouTube videos.

Huh, that's surprising. It seems like hardcore fans of the games are loving this. As a non-gamer, it was watchable but unremarkable. The stuff with the animatronics was neat, it's well shot, performances are fine, but it's not even remotely scary or frightening, and the story is basically a lifetime-tier drama.

2/5.
As someone who has experienced the games (whose lore is a clusterfuck, not going to lie), this movie does a decent job of making the audience understand the lore/story better. On top of that, the character designs are faithful.
However.. the movie mostly sucks. The game is famous for its jumpscares, yet there aren't really that many in the movie, despite quite a few scenes setting one up perfectly.. they just don't happen. This is probably due to the movie having a kid friendly rating.. but even so kids still played the games with jumpscares so there isn't really an excuse for the lack of them.
I found Willy's Wonderland to be more entertaining, the animatronic movie with Nic Cage. See, when big movies are going to release and news first comes out about it, there's usually some other smaller movie company that rips it off and makes and releases a similar movie first. Quite a lot of times those sorts of rip off movies end up being garbage, and the bigger release being better. However that is not the case here, of all the delays this movie has had production wise, Willy's Wonderland, the rip off that got released first, is the superior movie.
I suppose if you're a die hard fan of the games, you'll find a way to like this movie no matter what due to the faithful recreation of the robots and the location. But for myself, someone who thinks the games are decent horror games for kids but am not fanatical about them, this movie could have been so much better than it is.
Much like the robots in the movie, the movie is a pretty outer shell but when you get into it it's just a bare minimal skeleton of a good story.

Universial dun fuck'd up. They should have never released this on Peacock. It would have made more money.

I heard it is a refernce to The Puppet and that he may be the villain in the sequel.

It probably would've cleared an 80% drop had Dune released this weekend.

Plan to see it again MAYBE today. It is still bad no matter what, but I don't hate it either. Plus I get a kick at seeing that fight scene in my local mall, lol!
